Pete Seeger 1919-2014
In 2007 I had the honor to interview, listen to and have lunch with a TRUE pioneer- Pete Seeger. He was a student of my great uncle Lead Belly and a fantastic storyteller. He became a mentor to me and we spoke at least 10 times over the past few years. He played a vital role in the documentary I produced and he also gave me an example of an entertainer who was willing to say NO to things he didn’t agree with. For example when his band had the number #1 single in America, he was approached by cigarette companies to sponsor their tour. He refused because he wasn’t a smoker and it may have cost them money but he held onto his dignity and that is why I send a Rest in Peace to a freedom fighter, historian and friend of my family.
